Goodstock Vancouver: 24 Hours of Free!

Harvey McKinnon Associates (HMA), one of Canada’s leading fundraising agencies, is offering its services free to three local charities during Goodstock™ Vancouver, a 24-hour marathon of free fundraising, design, and creative work.

The staff at HMA are planning a 24-hour marathon to help three Lower Mainland charities "who are doing important work in our community but wouldn’t normally be able to hire experts to help them raise money," explains HMA Account Manager Morgan Cartier.

Charities are encouraged to apply to goodstock@harveymckinnon.com before the deadline of 2 pm on November 13th. Of all entries, three groups will be selected.

The agency is soliciting projects from nonprofits based in the Metro Vancouver area who work primarily on local issues. "This is a way for us to give back to our community," says Glenn Gaetz, co-organizer of the event, "and a way for us to help make our city even better than it already is."

HMA has offices in Vancouver and Toronto and works exclusively with nonprofits such as Amnesty International, Vancouver General Hospital, Oxfam, Ecojustice, and many other national organizations.

How it works

HMA's team of experts in nonprofit direct response fundraising and marketing will work on a variety of projects over the 24-hour event. It will begin at 9 am on December 4th and end at 9am on December 5th.

"We're really looking for a range of exciting and creative projects," says Cartier. "We could put together a yearly fundraising plan, design a mailing, create a campaign website, produce a video or radio PSA. The projects should be fun and profitable for those chosen for the marathon."

The idea is based on "Goodstock™," a project by Knupp & Watson, a US-based advertising and marketing firm. Other agencies in the US, including LGA Advertising in Charlotte, North Carolina, have joined in with their own events over the past few years.

HMA is asking that interested charities submit their projects by email before 2 pm on November 13th. Please visit http://harveymckinnon.com/goodstock for more information and guidelines on submitting a project proposal. Winners will be announced in the week of November 16th.

Event sponsors include:

How many employees do you have?

Our Vancouver office has a staff of 11, and our Toronto office has a staff of 5. We will also be bringing in a team of talented designers, copywriters, web developers, photographers, and more to join in the fun.

What are your selection criteria?

To be considered, each nonprofit should be an established organization doing meaningful work in Vancouver or the Lower Mainland. We are only considering organizations that will be able to make use of the work that we do. We want our mail piece designs, videos, etc to be used to make a positive difference in the world. We will be basing our decision on the uniqueness and creativity of the projects proposed, as well as feasibility.

HMA respects the opinions of our employees. In fairness to them, we reserve the right to decline proposals from religious, political organizations, and other organizations that conflict with any of our employees’ ethics.

Full guidelines and an RFP can be downloaded from our website: www.harveymckinnon.com/goodstock. What kinds of work will you be doing?

We will have the capacity to do design, results analysis, strategy planning, video, photography, copywriting, and more. How much do you think you’ll donate?

The value of the work we will be doing over the 24-hour period is over $60,000. We are additionally working to negotiate special rates and specials with some of our suppliers, such as Western Printers, Supremex, and Premier, for the winning charities.
